MAELSTROM by David Niall Wilson. Bad Moon Books. Signed Limited Hardcover.

Something in Lavender, California is waking up. Rituals not properly completed for centuries are coming together. Nothing is what it seems.

When Nick Leatherman, his girlfriend Ruthie, and their buddies Flash and Weasel invade Shady Grove Cemetery for a “ghost hunt” on their way home from a concert, they are drawn into a web of darkness and intrigue that threatens to consume them. Nick and Ruthie witness a gruesome murder, and Nick’s pocketknife shows up at the crime scene the next morning. Nick has had problems in the past, and Inspector Kendall Straker remembers. He remembers Ned Leatherman, Nick’s alcoholic step-father as well, and he doesn’t believe the boy is a killer. The problem is that the knife – emblazoned with the name of the band Maelstrom – is the only clue he has.

Horace Goldbough is the local pastor. He’s built a huge following and a beautiful church, but there are things about the good reverend that the town doesn’t know. In particular there is his relationship with a dark woman named Beauchane, and a certain book he keeps hidden from the world.

With local reporters, and a television talk-show host hounding his every step, Straker attempts to unravel the series of grisly killings terrorizing Lavender, while simultaneously protecting Nick. Nick, in the meantime, has begun his own investigation, feeling trapped and needing to clear his name.

Ritual words are being spoken, and a power that has been denied access to the Earth for centuries is poised to strike. The clock is ticking. Can Straker, Nick, and Maelstrom find the answer to the killings and put an end to them before the final ritual takes place, or will a horror be unleashed on the unsuspecting town of Lavender beyond their comprehension?

EVERYTHING HOWLS by Christopher Lopez. Bad Moon Books. Trade Paperback.

With every new clue Sheriff Aaron Bishop uncovers, another reasonable explanation goes out the window, and with each new body discovered another suspect is eliminated. An old Algonquin Indian claims to know the truth and how to end the bloodshed. But his truth is the stuff of legend and his answer too barbarous for Aaron to even consider.

NEIGHBOURHOOD JUNGLE by Brett McBean. Tasmaniac. Signed Limited Softcover.

Six months have passed since the arrival of the New World. A world plunged into primitive living overnight.

Within this wild and dangerous landscape live two types of survivors: those attempting to restore civilisation, a sense of order and normalcy; and those who have embraced the jungle, governed by new rules, doing anything to survive.

For the group living in the remains of a supermarket – now a make-shift hospital and refuge – their attempts of a safe, ordered life has so far been successful. There’s an adequate supply of food, with injuries and maladies being treated as best as possible by the local doctor. Their main concern is the gang living in the ruined Blockbuster across the river. As wild and untamed as the jungle that has taken over the once-thriving suburban shopping strip, the gang kidnap and murder at will, hanging what remains of the dead from a nearby fast-food sign.

So far they’ve left the small community alone, but it’s only a matter of time before the gang’s blood lust brings forth a deadly confrontation.

In the jungle, only the fittest survive. Welcome to the neighbourhood.

IT KNOWS WHERE YOU LIVE by Gary McMahon. Gray Friar Press. Signed Limited Hardcover.

The modern world is a place ripe with fears. The city, the suburbs, and even the fringes of the countryside: all present opportunities for unease. The way people act when they are together, or when they are alone; the beats, the pauses, and the words we use to communicate reveal a primal darkness at the heart of the modern human experience.

And whatever this darkness is, it knows where you live . . .

In these fifteen tales, acclaimed horror author Gary McMahon casts a light into the shadowy corners of contemporary life, and brings those fears to the page.

This book will only ever appear in a limited hardcover signed edition. Each copy will include a unique message handwritten by the author on the title page, making each numbered copy additionally distinct.

ORIGIN OF PAIN by Ryan C. Thomas. Thunderstorm. Signed Limited Hardcover.

Roger Huntington is a comic book-loving nerd. Bad with women, but good with paints and a canvas, Roger yearns to be a comic book artist, to create the heroes he so enthusiastically follows. His best friend, Tooth, is just the opposite — good with the ladies, the life of the party, never without a beer in hand. Roger knows superheroes with capes and cowls aren’t real, but two bloody events in his life force him to question what he knows about heroism. First, in New Hampshire, as he and Tooth are trapped in the basement of a sadistic killer with an arsenal of razor-sharp blades and a hungry dog, Roger must question whether or not heroes are born or made. Then, ten years later, once again thrust in the middle of a gruesome cult nightmare, Roger is forced to ask the even more terrifying question of whether or not heroes have a choice.

For the first time, this omnibus collection by Ryan C. Thomas chronicles the origin of one of the most unseemly heroes of our time. Witness firsthand the horrifying, bloody events that made both The Summer I Died and Born To Bleed cult classics in the horror world.

And the truth was much, much worse…

DISTRUST THAT PARTICULAR FLAVOR by William Gibson. Putnam. Signed Trade Hardcover.

A first collection of nonfiction writings by the best-selling author of Neuromancer includes his Wired magazine article on the Singapore trial of a drug trafficker, his New York Times piece on what’s wrong with the Internet and his Rolling Stone-published essay on the way music documents modern culture.

William Gibson is known primarily as a novelist, with his work ranging from his groundbreaking first novel, Neuromancer, to his more recent contemporary bestsellers Pattern Recognition, Spook Country, and Zero History. During those nearly thirty years, though, Gibson has been sought out by widely varying publications for his insights into contemporary culture. Wired magazine sent him to Singapore to report on one of the world’s most buttoned-up states. The New York Times Magazine asked him to describe what was wrong with the Internet. Rolling Stone published his essay on the ways our lives are all “soundtracked” by the music and the culture around us. And in a speech at the 2010 Book Expo, he memorably described the interactive relationship between writer and reader.

These essays and articles have never been collected-until now. Some have never appeared in print at all. In addition, Distrust That Particular Flavor includes journalism from small publishers, online sources, and magazines no longer in existence. This volume will be essential reading for any lover of William Gibson’s novels. Distrust That Particular Flavor offers readers a privileged view into the mind of a writer whose thinking has shaped not only a generation of writers but our entire culture.

Now he’s considered an abomination in his own realm,an outcast with only one purpose: to restore his lost soul! From the mind of fan-favorite creator Michael Alan Nelson (28 DAYS LATER, HEXED, DINGO, ROBERT E. HOWARD’S HAWKS OF OUTREMER) comes OUTCAST, a visceral new ongoing series that blends “epic fantasy” with “sword-and-sorcery.” Perfect for fans of A Game of Thrones and Conan.

VOLTRON issue 1.

Ultimate victory has never been closer for the Voltron Force. King Zarkon’s brutal regime has been pushed to the edges of the galaxy, left to wage a series of desperate and losing battles to claim innocent victims while they still can. But Zarkon knows something—a secret about Voltron over a hundred years old that could change everything for the Galaxy Alliance. This isn’t the Voltron we all know, but one redefined and re-imagined by those he and his adventures have inspired over the years. This is Generation Voltron…

Whew!! There is a bunch of fun stuff this week and after reading it all I can happily recommend the following… The Dunwich Horror, Hellraiser (man oh man things just got real!), and I was very pleased with Valen the Outcast and Voltron.

All can be found at our eBay comic store.

New Thunderstorm & Dark Regions Titles In Stock

THEY by J.F. Gonzalez. Thunderstorm. Signed Limited Hardcover.

They walk among us unnoticed, unassuming.

A year after the auto accident that killed his wife, Vince Walters is finally beginning to move forward with his life. With the support of friends, he’s digging back into his career and even beginning to date again.

When his estranged mother, Maggie Walters, is murdered, Vince is stunned by the hideous nature of the crime. Maggie lived a quiet life in a small, rural, Pennsylvania town, attending church, reading the Bible, and subscribing to an increasingly paranoid view of the End Times as prophesied in The Book of Revelations. Her brutal killing, which bears all the signs of being related to a sinister satanic cult, is inexplicable given her life of faith.

However, a visit from a childhood playmate confirms what Vince is beginning to uncover about his mother’s past: that she was involved with a cult during his early childhood, but later defected and went into hiding with him. As hard as Maggie worked to bury her dark past, it seems that they found her.

Now they’ve found Vince. And this time, they are not going to give him up.

They have plans for him.

Against this tense background, a Damned man named Frank Lyre and a beautiful winged Demon named Oni act out a passionate love affair, but they too will be swept into a battle that may decide the future of all Creation.

Subversive, sexy, poetic and nightmarish, Beautiful Hell is set in the world of Jeffrey Thomas’ short story collection Voices From Hades, and the novels The Fall of Hades and Letters From Hades, about which F. Paul Wilson said, “Jeffrey Thomas’ imagination is as twisted as it is relentless.”
