FANGTOOTH by Shaun Jeffrey (signed limited hardcover)

From the author of The Kult comes a brand new novel, Fangtooth.

After the death of his wife, Bruce Holden moves to the quaint coastal fishing village of Mulberry with his son, Jack. He is hoping for a fresh start, but the locals greet their arrival with mixed reactions, from friendliness to open hostility. Bruce puts it down to them being outsiders, but when a tourist is killed while swimming, the real horror is unleashed. There’s something ravenous in the sea. Something that’s coming ashore in search of prey. Now Bruce and Jack find themselves embroiled in a nightmare where humankind is no longer at the top of the food chain.

15FIFTEEN MINUTES by William Ollie (signed limited hardcover)
It is a ring, forged deep within the jungles of Ecuador, centuries ago.

Sixteen-year-old Simon had no idea what he was getting into when his mother packed him off to spend the summer at Granny’s house.

A cat’s eye ring with mystical powers.

The first thing he noticed was the hip clothing, the uncharacteristic sultry language and wild, futuristic hairdo. The second was the cool ring she wore.

The power to become another, to ward off an enemy by becoming that enemy.

Now his grandmother is dead, and if he hadn’t killed her, he’d certainly had a hand in her demise. He should’ve been horrified at what lay before him, dismayed at the part he had played. But he was neither of these things. He was excited, elated, because what lay before him was not his dead grandmother, but a mystery as deep as the meaning of life itself, an adventure of a lifetime.

One he can’t wait to embark upon.

angels

MIDNIGHT’S ANGELS by Tony Richards (signed limited hardcover)
It may look like a perfectly ordinary New England town, a little larger than most. But Raine’s Landing, Massachusetts, holds some very dark secrets. The real witches of Salem fled here just before the Trials of 1692, and the place has been full of magic — the good and the bad kind — ever since. And a curse hangs over the whole population … there are so many people because nobody born here can ever leave.

Now the Landing is facing its worst peril yet, monstrous flying creatures in the service of an evil older than the Universe itself. They have an unpleasant way of possessing people to their side, and their powers keep on growing until little can withstand them. Most of the major adepts succumb … there are only two left to defend Raine’s Landing. And the town’s chief troubleshooter, ex-cop Ross Devries, has an enormous challenge on his hands. He needs to get his former sidekick, Cassie, back into the fight. And if they are to have any slightest chance of winning through, they’re going to have to make some very strange new friends, and new alliances to save Raine’s Landing, and save the world.

Midnight’s Angels is the third novel in the Raine’s Landing series!

This Weeks New Comic Titles

Got a handful of new titles this week, many of them issue 1 of the series. A lot of genres covered in this week’s offerings.

Anne Rice’s Servant of the Bones issue 1 (of 6)

Anne Rice, among the most iconic creators in horror, brings one of her richest stories to IDW in this six-part tale of murder, demonic revenge, and the redemptive power of faith. When a beautiful young woman is brutally slain in the streets of New York City, the demon Azriel sets out to discover who killed her, only to find a far more sinister plot that could end the world. Once a human in ancient Babylon, Azriel is a spirit of rage and terror that gradually rediscovers his humanity through holy vengeance and spiritual love. Ornately illustrated by the New York Times Best-selling team of Renae DeLiz and Ray Dillon.

It also includes a short one page introduction by the author on the last page about her inspiration for writing Azriel. I haven’t read the book so I am not sure how the comic matches up, but the first issue was well written and wonderfully illustrated.

The Bionic Man issue 1 by Kevin Smith

Steve Austin is back and acclaimed film maker Kevin Smith unleashes his high octane vision in this new series from Dynamite. Featuring 28 pages of story/art in an action-packed first issue! Kevin Smith is joined by Phil Hester, artist Jonathan Lau, and cover artist/character designer Alex Ross (the team who brought you The MAIN Green Hornet series), Smith unleashes Bionic Man into the 21st century as only he can.

As a kid I watched a few of the episodes, but was a bigger fan of the Bionic Woman (I am a girl, geesh!). Thought I would give it a try since I am a fan of Kevin Smith and the work he did with the Green Hornet series. With what little knowledge I have of the television show, this seems to follow the origin of Steve Austin and the main characters. It is set in the now time, the dialogue is great, art is great and it has some great action. This issue does what first issues are supposed to do, make you want to read the next!

As you can see Dynamite Entertainment did 4 covers for the first issue, as well as a handful of others not pictured. For the collector we have all covers available and for the reader we have some of them available indivdually offered.

Warehouse 13 issue 1 (of 5)

Enter a world of endless wonder as Syfy’s smash-hit dramedy makes its comic book debut! When a series of sudden, unexplained sinkholes appear beneath the streets of Rio de Janeiro, the Warehouse team heads down to Brazil in the middle of Carnival to uncover the cause. What they discover is that someone is using an ancient artifact to move massive chunks of earth and mine huge, underground gold deposits. With the ground becoming increasingly unstable, our heroes find themselves in a race to retrieve the artifact before the entire city collapses! Written by the writers of WAREHOUSE 13, this thrilling 5-issue action-adventure/mystery series promises to snag, bag and tag fans of the show and new readers alike!

What can I say about this comic that won’t make me sound like a super geek. Thought about it and I am going to sound like a super geek. Love the show and love the comic. It is just so much fun! Since the comic is written by the writers of the show it has that perfect dialogue and witty banter that makes the show so fun to watch. The comic is like a mini episode that gets you through your weekly fix. If you are a fan of the show you will dig this series. If you have never watched the show this is a good way to check it out without investing too much time or DVR space.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt issue 1

From the world of Forgotten Realms! The MOST POPULAR CHARACTER from the MOST POPULAR FANTASY WORLD of all time comes to life in his FIRST ORIGINAL comic book tale. DRIZZT leads this massive thriller into Salvatore’s next blockbuster novel! Don’t miss this prequel!

OK here is where things get really geeky! Not only do I love comics, but I am a gamer too! Not that online stuff, a REAL gamer. Pencil, character sheet, multi-sided dice gamer. Now having said that I have never read a single story involving Drizzt before, let the hissing commence from the gallery. I did however pick this issue up and start reading it and was lost and not sure what the heck was going on. That is because I have never read any of the Drizzt books by R.A. Salvatore, so lesson learned. So if you are a fan of Drizzt then I am sure you will like this series since it dovetails right into the next book. If you are like me and have never read the books, well I guess you have to be like me and go and read them before reading this comic series.

Dungeons & Dragons issue 10

Fell’s Five has broken into the First Lord’s underground fortress. They have to steal the Guide of Gates, or die in darkness… if they’re lucky. Join John Rogers and Andrea Di Vito as they bring us the latest chapter in these thrilling adventures of swords and sorcery!

This is the first issue of the ongoing series that I have read. It is the start of a new story arc so not having read the first 9 issues wasn’t a problem. The story is well written and the art is fantastic. Perfect for the gamer that I know is lurking in all of us.

Well that about covers this weeks titles. Next week will bring us fun adventures in Hell, in L.A. with a little faith and an angel, a planet full of apes and stalking the halls of the Lovecraft House.

If you would like to own any of the wonderful titles shown in this weeks review you can find them at the Bad Moon Comics Store
